Welcome to Our Home
In our recent video series, we began to weave the story of the house Pheasant Lane Designs built. Elizabeth Ruffalo, the founder and creative mind behind PLD, and her husband Matt loved sharing their inspiration and intentions for their new home with the world. Now, we’re so excited to open the doors wide and usher you inside.
There are several repeating design narratives running through the home. One of them is arches. Liz has said, “Give me an arch, and I’m happy,” so it’s no surprise that this shape echoes in the architecture and accessories. The barrel-vaulted hallway forms the spine of the dwelling and sets the stage for what’s in store. As you enter, the curves greet you with a warm embrace before inviting you into the largely airy and open floor plan. These thick arcs were no accident; they were meticulously planned for and framed during the architectural process.
Another heartbeat drumming in the home is mixing natural patterns and tones. The varied colors and textures in the floors, custom built-ins, and furniture don’t fight each other but instead find cohesion and harmony. With its stunning grove green cabinets, the wine room serves as another study in contrast between the ebony, embossed zellige backsplash and the warm dove herringbone of the floor. Both baths also use marble and tile to maximize the play of light while providing a soothing, spa-like zen.
This English country-style home rings with a modern sensibility, but artisanal and classical forms are continually celebrated. The plaster kitchen hood brings an old-school European charm to a space that any modern-day chef will drool over. Clean lines and hand-hewn organic textures combine in every space to remind us that, no matter how elegant, they are all meant to be lived in and enjoyed.
